    America, The Beautiful

Where do I begin? I was born in America and I have lived every waking moment of my almost 20 year life within its borders. I have watched American television. I have listened to American music. I have eaten American food and I have indulged in pretty much any and every American social activity. I am an American. Let me say that again. I am an American. 80 years ago, those words would have been held in such esteem, such honor. You were a step ahead of the rest of the world if you were American. Well lets make one thing clear, America as it is today is nothing more than a mere shell of the proud country it was 80 years ago. Why?, might you ask. It’s quite simple. People are becoming enlightened. People are waking up. People are seeing this country for what it truly is. Ask almost anyone in this country their opinion on America and I can almost guarantee that said person will cover up all of America’s flaws with some rendition of “…but America is still the greatest country on Earth.” Really? How exactly are you sure of that? Relatives that were in the military over 50 years ago? Yeah, I’m sure that’s what they have said. My grandfather says the same thing. But that viewpoint is so biased that I wont spend my time at this moment getting into it. How else can you back up that claim? Because everything you see on the news depicts other countries as third world compared to the great United States? The mainstream news is the absolute least reliable source of information in the world. Do some research. Luckily, about 20 years ago, the greatest invention in the history of mankind was born- the Internet. An intangible, open, FREE, space for information of all kinds to be delivered to different places all over the world. The world literally was never the same. Along with the invention of the internet was the evolution from its original uses to being used as a world wide networking tool. People in the US and UK were talking in real time for the first time ever. It was spectacular and along with these connections came outside opinions on a variety of subjects ranging from politics to entertainment to history and the list goes on and on. And for the first time ever, people in America, who hadn’t traveled outside of the states, had been exposed to the true opinions of our beloved country held by those in other “foreign” countries and it soon became apparent that the United States was not all it was cracked up to be. We have always been told that other countries hated us because of who we are and what we stand for and to an extent, that is true. But, not in the way you think. Other countries don’t hate us because we are free. They hate us because we are arrogant. They hate us because we operate under this mindset that America is the alpha and omega and America can do no wrong. They hate us because we stand for excess, violence, and ignorance. They hate us because we go into sovereign nations and literally TAKE OVER. We are the bad guys that movies and T.V. shows warn us about. But, you will never see that side of the story on American television which brings me to my point. If you’re an American, WAKE THE FUCK UP. Hop on to the internet, go to an alternative news site, research what’s really going on out there in the WORLD (The United States doesn’t constitute the entire world for those who are confused) and at the very least FORM YOUR OWN OPINIONS. Don’t take another person’s word as gospel. Enlighten yourself and realize what is going on out there. The world doesn’t hate us for no apparent reason (which is what every single American politician will have you believe). We can change the perspective that others have. And by the way, if you are one of those people that bleeds red, white, and blue and doesn’t give a fuck about what the rest of the world thinks, then YOU are oblivious and just fuel the growing animosity and danger that this country faces if it doesn’t get it’s shit together.

Am I proud to be an American? I’m not so sure anymore. But, I hope enough people out there can take what I’m saying to heart and change my mind.
